Jianan Qian is a bilingual writer, translator, and illustrator. In her native Chinese, she is the author of a story collection, a novel, a lecture collection, and an essay collection. In English, her writing has appeared in Granta, The New York Times, The Common, and elsewhere. She was awarded an O. Henry Prize in 2021
